What is a refurbished iPad?

A refurbished iPad is a device that has been professionally inspected, cleaned, tested, and factory reset by an expert refurbisher. It's not a discarded or returned product sold as-is: it undergoes a rigorous quality process before it reaches you.

On Zaltova, every refurbished iPad meets a strict quality charter and is graded on cosmetic condition: Fair, Good, or Excellent. All three grades are 100% functional. The only thing that varies is the level of cosmetic wear on the outside.

The difference from new? Mainly the price. A refurbished iPad typically costs 30 to 50% less than its retail equivalent.

Why buy a refurbished iPad?

The case is simple: the same performance, a significantly lower price, and a genuinely smaller environmental footprint. Every iPad on Zaltova has been professionally tested and restored to full working order by a vetted refurbisher. You're not taking a gamble on an unknown device: you're buying a product that's been verified to work.

A refurbished iPad Air M1 starts at $82 on Zaltova. Compare the current iPad Pro M2 listings for prices by screen size, storage, connectivity and condition.

There's a real environmental argument too. Manufacturing a new tablet mobilises 292 kilograms of resources and 110,400 litres of water. Choosing a refurbished iPad avoids 88% of the greenhouse gas emissions tied to production, which is the equivalent of 65 kg of CO2e per device. It also reduces e-waste by 83% compared to buying new. That's not a marketing line: it's based on Zaltova's own calculations using data from the French environmental agency ADEME.

Which refurbished iPad should you buy?

The right iPad depends on what you need it for. Here's a breakdown of the current lineup:

Model	Starting from	Best for	iPadOS 26 support	Key feature
iPad 9th Gen (2021)	$47	Budget everyday use	✅ Yes	Most affordable entry point
iPad 10th Gen (2022)	$69	Students, everyday tasks	✅ Yes	USB-C, landscape FaceTime camera
iPad Air M1 (2022)	$82	Productivity, creative work	✅ Yes	M1 chip, 10.9" Liquid Retina
iPad Air M2 (2024)	$131	Performance and portability	✅ Yes	M2 chip, landscape front camera
iPad mini 6th Gen (2021)	$81	On-the-go use	✅ Yes	USB-C, compact 8.3" display
iPad Pro M1/M2	$126	Power users, professionals	✅ Yes	ProMotion 120Hz, Thunderbolt

If you're unsure where to start, the iPad 10th Gen hits the sweet spot: it supports the latest iPadOS, has a modern USB-C connector, and costs a fraction of the new price on Zaltova. Looking for something more powerful? The refurbished iPad Air and refurbished iPad Pro are both worth a look. And if portability is the priority, the refurbished iPad mini is hard to beat.

Why buy a refurbished iPad from Zaltova?

Zaltova is the largest dedicated marketplace for professionally refurbished tech in the US. Every seller on the platform is vetted against a strict quality charter: professional inspection, cosmetic grading, and full factory reset before your device ships.

You'll find hundreds of refurbished iPads here, from the iPad 9th Gen to the iPad Pro M4. Prices reflect real market competition, so you're always seeing current offers from multiple professional refurbishers.

Since Zaltova launched in 2014, purchases on the platform have helped avoid 2.2 million tons of CO2e emissions and 8,500 tons of e-waste. Buying a refurbished iPad isn't a compromise on quality: it's a smarter deal for your wallet and a lighter footprint for the planet.

Do refurbished iPads from Zaltova come with a warranty?

Yes. Every refurbished iPad sold on Zaltova includes a 1-year commercial warranty and a 30-day money-back guarantee, plus free standard shipping.

The commercial warranty covers any defects that arise within 12 months of delivery, outside of accidental damage. If something goes wrong, you can choose between a repair, a replacement, or a reimbursement. The 30-day guarantee means you also have a full month after delivery to change your mind, no questions asked.

What to expect from a refurbished iPad

Your refurbished iPad arrives fully functional and factory reset. Depending on the grade you choose, there may be minor cosmetic marks:

Excellent: barely any visible signs of use, near-flawless finish
Good: light surface scratches from normal everyday use
Fair: visible signs of use on the outside, but fully functional in every way

Whatever the grade, performance is identical. The screen works perfectly, battery health meets a minimum threshold, and all hardware (cameras, buttons, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, charging port) is tested before shipping.

Trade in your current iPad

If you're upgrading from an older iPad, Zaltova's buyback programme lets you trade it in for credit toward your next purchase. Answer a few quick questions about your current device and get a free online quote in minutes.
